Fewer and fewer strawberries from Lower Saxony, Germany

Compared to the final results of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 16.3%. After a declining strawberry harvest was already recorded last year, the decline in the harvest quantity is continuing this year. Fewer and fewer strawberries come from open-air cultivation in Lower Saxony. Around 22,200 tons of strawberries are expected to be grown outdoors in 2024. That would be 14.7% less than in the previous year. This decline in the harvest quantity is based primarily on a steady reduction in the productive open-air area in Lower Saxony. In 2022, the figure was still 2,574 hectares; in 2023 the area had already decreased by 7.9% and this year it has decreased again by 15.9% to around 2,000 hectares.
