The French snail industry is being significantly impacted by climate change, leading to disrupted harvests and increased costs. Factors such as transportation, packaging, energy, and raw materials are all becoming more expensive, with some costs doubling or tripling in the past two years. These rising costs are causing a scarcity of snails, and growers are seeking support from distributors to maintain their business. The industry, which includes around 1,500 jobs and had a turnover of over 72.3 million euros in 2020, is facing the possibility of disappearing due to the lack of sufficient raw materials.
