Peru's Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has introduced new regulations to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, particularly targeting foreign-flagged vessels in Peruvian waters. This includes the mandatory use of a Satellite Tracking System (SISESAT) to monitor fishing activities, with data transmitted every 10 minutes. Foreign vessels entering Peruvian ports are also required to submit a 12-month satellite positioning report and face inspections to ensure compliance. These measures aim to safeguard Peru's marine life, including tuna and giant squid, from illegal fishing and climate change. Non-compliant vessels and suspicious fishing activities will be reported to international organizations.
