At the 42nd Committee for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) meeting, Korea was the only country among 11 toothfish fishing nations to comply with all regulations. Korea applied for fishing licenses for the largest number of vessels, with 11 (8 toothfish and 3 krill), and received final approval. They also co-sponsored a proposal to designate a marine protected area and presented an action plan to manage lost fishing gear, which was unanimously adopted. Korea's Director of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Kim Jeong-rye, was elected as co-chair, increasing Korea's influence in discussions on Antarctic krill management.
