As of January 10, 2022, fish prices in the local Egyptian market have remained stable. The price per kilo of tilapia fish varies between 28 and 40 pounds, depending on the region. Egypt's annual fish production includes 1.6 million tons from fish farming and 183 thousand tons from lakes. The transit market has seen wholesale prices for tilapia, snakes, bream, and coral. Egypt leads Africa in fish farming, accounting for 79.7% of the country's fish production. The country achieves 85% self-sufficiency in fish production and exported about 35 thousand tons in 2019. The government is working to increase export rates and develop lakes such as El-Manzala, Burullus, Mariout, and Bardawil.
