Fish prices in Egypt are set to rise, with the cost per kilo for tilapia expected to increase to between 28 and 40 pounds, depending on the region. The country produced 2 million tons of fish in 2022, with 1.6 million tons coming from aquaculture. Egypt has achieved 85% self-sufficiency in fish production and is the leading country in African aquaculture. The prices for other fish and seafood, such as squid, mullet, bream, and crab, also vary significantly. The government is also working on expanding integrated fish farming and developing hatcheries to increase export rates.
