Brazil has seen a significant increase in fish imports, reaching 41,700 tons in the first quarter of the year, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC). The imports, which include cod and salmon mainly from Norway and Chile, have helped to supplement domestic production. Federal auditors have highlighted the need for quality checks to ensure the safety and reasonable pricing of these imports. Despite a slight decrease of 5.9%, imports of frozen, fresh or chilled fish fillets and meats were still subject to thorough inspections by federal agricultural inspectors at ports, airports, borders, and processing facilities.
