In 2020, despite a global contraction in commodity trade by 7 percent due to the pandemic, Turkey's aquaculture industry saw a 4 percent increase in exports, reaching a record $1.53 billion, the highest in the industry's history. This growth was notable given the industry's negative export performance in the second quarter. The industry's success included significant growth in exports of seabass, bream, trout, and tuna, with the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Greece, and the UK being the top importers of Turkish aquaculture products.
