An extraordinary session of the Campeche Pink Shrimp Fishery Consultative Committee led to significant advancements in the implementation of the Fisheries Management Plan, as reported by Conapesca and Inapesca. The meeting highlighted the results of the FAO-Inapesca Project REBYC-II LAC, focusing on the sustainable management of bycatch in Latin American trawl fisheries. The 2021 meeting schedule and the new annual work program were approved, with plans to continue the REBYC-II LAC project under the Pink Shrimp Fisheries Management Plan. This initiative aims to improve the regulatory frameworks for shrimp trawling, strengthen bycatch management, promote sustainable livelihoods, and monitor project progress. The shrimp fishery, contributing 45% to the national fishery production value, faces challenges such as population decline and environmental disturbances, necessitating sustainable solutions like the REBYC-II LAC Project.
