The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported a fifth consecutive rise in the food price index, reaching a high of 100.9 points in October, which is 3.1% higher than September and 6.0% higher than October 2019. This increase is attributed to higher prices in cereals, vegetable oil, dairy, and sugar, while meat prices have decreased. Cereal prices have seen a significant increase due to high global demand, reduced export availability, and poor crop conditions. Vegetable oil prices have also risen, largely due to higher prices of palm oil and soybeans. Finally, dairy prices have also increased for the fifth month in a row, driven by higher prices of all dairy products represented in the index.
