The Food Safety Authority of Egypt has announced a new regulation requiring food imports to be licensed by the Ministry of Environment, effective from the publication of Food Safety Authority Resolution No. 6 of 2020. This resolution prohibits food import activities without a license and introduces a facility registration process for food establishments that import food. The registration is equivalent to a food importer license, as per the resolution. The authority has called on the Food Industry Export Council to notify all food establishments engaged in import activities about the new regulations. The resolution covers a range of food and beverage items imported for retail sale, including dairy products, fruits, oils, chocolates, bakery products, and fruit juices.
