For the first time in Ukraine, a separate ban on pike fishing will be in effect

From February 15, 2023, in accordance with the new rules, a ban on catching pike during the spawning period is established in all fishing water bodies, which will be in effect until March 31. This was reported by the press service of the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries. "This ban is being introduced in Ukraine for the first time and will finally correspond to the logic of the development process of this fish species. After all, the pike is one of the few fish in our reservoirs, the spawning activity of which begins at a water temperature of 3-5°C, which is lower compared to the spawning temperatures of other species. In order to protect spawners in the pre-spawning and spawning periods, the term of the spawning ban on catching pike should extend not only to the period of spawning, but also to the time of pre-spawning activity.
