The Ministry of Agriculture in Thailand is promoting the cultivation of coffee to replace imports. Thailand currently imports 60,000 tons of coffee beans and only produces 20,000 tons domestically. The ministry plans to promote coffee planting in rubber plantation areas and on mountainsides where maize is currently grown, with the aim of producing 3,000 tons and 60,000 tons respectively. The Agricultural Research Development Agency has been assigned to conduct a research project to support this initiative.
