The Ministry of Commerce of Thailand collaborates with rice exporters to deepen cooperation in Japan, striving to consolidate market share in Japan.

The delegation met with the head of the Crop Production Bureau under Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). The Japanese side introduced that since May 2025, domestic rice prices in Japan have risen about twice compared to the same period last year, although they have since fallen, they are still about 1.4 times higher than last year, mainly due to domestic rice production not being sufficient to meet demand. The Thai side stated that Thailand can produce about 20 to 22 million tons of rice annually, and this year, due to abundant rainfall, rice production is expected to be higher than last year, enough to supply Japan with stable and competitive prices. It is expected that Thailand's rice exports will reach the target of 7.5 million tons in 2025, and it hopes that Japan will continue to import about 300,000 tons of Thai rice annually.
