(Kimje=Yonhap News) Reporter Baek Do-in = Jeonbuk Kimje City announced on the 29th that three individuals, including former Kwangwal Agricultural Cooperative Association Chairman Shin Gwang-sik, have been selected as the winners of the 31st Kimje Citizens' Awards.
Shin, the former chairman, who received the industry award, was recognized for his efforts in establishing the production and distribution system for Kwangwal sweet potatoes over the 10 years he served as chairman from 2010, thereby nurturing it as the region's representative income crop.
Kwangwal sweet potatoes account for approximately 30% of the national spring potato production, making them a representative agricultural product of the region.
The filial piety award went to Son Mi-ja, who has been caring for her elderly parents and husband for several decades, and the love for the country award went to Seon Eun-tak, who served as the chairman of the Kimje Association in the capital.
The awards ceremony will take place at the opening ceremony of the 27th Kimje Horizon Festival next month on the 8th, where the winners will receive plaques and medals.
Mayor Jeong Seong-ju said, "We thank the award winners who have led regional development and raised the city's honor," and added, "In the future, we will actively seek and honor citizens who serve as role models in various fields."
