France is set to ban plastic packaging for almost all fruit and vegetables from January 2022 in an effort to reduce plastic waste. The environment ministry has published a list of around 30 fruits and vegetables that will have to be sold without plastic packaging. The government's multi-year program also includes a ban on plastic straws, cups, cutlery, and polystyrene take-out boxes from 2021. By June 2026, plastic packaging will be banned for a variety of other fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Additional measures to reduce plastic packaging consumption include the banning of disposable tableware in fast-food restaurants from January 2023.
