In recent weeks, the debacle of the Gral. Pico slaughterhouse has generated commotion among the members of the cattle farming community, with the recurring question in all cases being whether it is an isolated case or rather the first of many that are on the way. Firstly, it is necessary to contextualize the information: in Argentina, there are 359 slaughterhouses and butchers that in 2025 processed 11.39 million heads. The Gral. Pico slaughterhouse, which has 1092 rejected checks for an amount of 12.333 billion pesos (of which it has paid to date 38 for 75 million) and a bank debt of 23.377 billion pesos (part of which is already categorized as "problematic"), occupied the 45th place in the national ranking of cattle slaughter in 2025 with 83,662 heads processed (0.7% of the national total).
