Agricultural production is a hazardous operation, a fact that is particularly true during the harvest season. Unusual acts of sabotage are causing distress in Germany. This year has not been a good one for corn in Hungary either. The size of the cultivated area has plummeted to 753 thousand hectares, with an average yield of around 4.5 tons per hectare, half of what was harvested last year. The total amount entering the warehouses may remain below 4 million tons, which is 13 percent less than last year, yet the purchase price is surprisingly low, approximately 75 thousand forints per hectare. It would not be surprising if even fewer people chose this important arable crop next year. Harvesting, although the final phase of work on the fields, can still present numerous obstacles.
