In an effort to support the natural reproduction cycles of spring-summer breeding fish, the Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture, Kiril Vatev, has announced a comprehensive ban on fishing activities. Starting from April 15, 2024, this prohibition will encompass the Black Sea, the Danube River, and all inland water bodies in Bulgaria, specifically targeting the fishing of goby, gobies, and turbot during their breeding seasons in 2024. The ban also includes restrictions on catching whitefish, pike, and bream in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River until May 31, 2024. This initiative aims to protect fish populations and reduce bycatch during critical breeding periods. Despite these restrictions, the Ministry has identified select water bodies where recreational fishing will be permitted, with details available on their official website.
