According to financial ministry trade statistics, the import volume of processed shrimp increased by 11% to 25,517 tons; the import volume of frozen cold-water shrimp increased by 29% to 2,896 tons.
The import volume of frozen non-cold-water shrimp, including South American white shrimp and black tiger shrimp, remained stable at 51,746 tons.
In terms of supplying countries, the import volume from India and Ecuador, the main producing countries of South American white shrimp, increased.
By country/region, Japan's imports of non-cold-water shrimp from India increased by 10% to 13,571 tons, and from Ecuador increased by 36% to 7,026 tons.
Other sources of non-cold-water shrimp included: Indonesia (down 3% to 9,005 tons); Thailand (down 12% to 2,592 tons); Vietnam (stable at 8,509 tons).
The import volume of Argentine red shrimp decreased by 29% to 4,299 tons.
The average import price of non-cold-water shrimp increased by 4% to 1,322 yen per kilogram (approximately 8.99 USD).
The import volume of cold-water shrimp from multiple countries increased:
- Canada increased by 18% to 951 tons;
- Greenland increased by 37% to 841 tons;
- Russia increased by 21% to 544 tons;
- Lithuania's import volume more than doubled to 170 tons;
- Estonia's import volume increased by 17 times to 29 tons.
The average import price of cold-water shrimp decreased by 9% to 1,827 yen per kilogram (approximately 12.42 USD).
