A partnership between Kenya and the Netherlands, established in 2012 to improve Kenya's seed potato sector, has successfully increased the number of registered potato varieties in the country from 13 in 2013 to 64 in 2023. The collaboration has also led to significant investments in seed supply, distribution, storage solutions, production, processing, and sector development. The project has financed machinery, technologies, and capacity building at the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) and has implemented numerous training programs. The partnership has also published potato guidance manuals and catalogues, and continues to work towards increasing sustainable production in Kenya's potato sector through training and knowledge sharing.
