The House of Representatives has approved a plan to increase Egypt's agricultural exports from 5 million tons in 2021/2022 to 6 million tons by 2025, generating over $3.2 billion in revenue. The strategy includes expanding the cultivation of surplus crops with a competitive advantage in international markets, such as vegetables, onions, garlic, and citrus fruits. It also involves cultivating palm varieties and expanding organic farming, introducing new crops like quinoa and cassava, and increasing the export of high-value fish. The plan also aims to find new non-traditional markets for Egyptian products and develop the maritime transport fleet to improve agricultural exports to major markets, especially the European Union.
