In August 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are estimated to reach over 700 million USD, a 26.8% increase from the previous month and a 50.8% increase from the same period in 2023, largely due to the peak durian harvest period in the Central Highlands. From January to August 2024, fruit and vegetable exports are projected to generate 4.58 billion USD, a 29.1% year-over-year increase. China remains the largest buyer, importing nearly 2.5 billion USD worth of fruits and vegetables in the first seven months of 2024, followed by the United States and South Korea. Thailand has emerged as a notable market, with a 70% increase in imports of fruits and vegetables from Vietnam. The export value is largely driven by durians, with exports expected to reach about 3.5 billion USD in 2024. The country aims to expand its presence in the Northeast Asian market, where China and South Korea are the leading importers. Efforts are being made to update the production chain and meet market demands to build a strong brand for Vietnamese agricultural products.
