In the first half of 2020, Argentina experienced a notable increase in fruit and vegetable exports, with a 22% rise in fruit shipments and a 15% increase in vegetable exports compared to the same period in 2019, despite the challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic. Senasa, the national agricultural health service, played a crucial role in implementing protocols to ensure continued operation and adherence to safety measures. Fruit exports, including significant increases in lemon, orange, and kiwi, were primarily shipped to Russia, Brazil, and the US, while vegetable exports, marked by a substantial 160% increase in tomatoes, were mainly exported to Brazil and Paraguay. This growth in horticultural exports is a bright spot in Argentina's agricultural sector, offsetting declines in other commodities.
