Coldiretti, the largest agricultural organization in Europe, has announced that there is now an obligation to indicate the country of origin on the labels of various products, including fruit, vegetables, nuts, dried fruits, mushrooms, and saffron, to prevent imported products from being falsely labeled as made in Italy. This is in response to the demand from 80% of Italians who check labels for ingredients. While this is a significant step forward for transparency, there are still several products, such as fruit juices, jams, and bread, where the origin remains unknown.
