In the first quarter of 2022, China saw a significant increase in fruit imports, with the total value reaching US$4.26 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18.1%, and a volume of 2,018 million tons, up 17.6% from the previous year. The main imports included fresh cherries, bananas, longan, durian, and pitahaya. Cherry imports increased by 1.7% to 297,000 tons, with 99% coming from Chile. Banana imports surged by 16.6% to 521,000 tons. However, longan and durian imports experienced a decrease due to increased prevention measures at ports. Pitahaya imports from Vietnam also rose, with a year-on-year increase of 31.2% to 241,000 tons. The main suppliers of fruit to China in the first quarter were Chile, Thailand, Vietnam, Peru, and the Philippines.
