The Portuguese fruit, vegetables, ornamental plants and flowers sector saw a growth of 4.4% in value in 2020, reaching 1,683 million euros, despite the economic challenges of the pandemic. The sector experienced a significant increase in the value of exports, which grew by over 115% since 2010, and the price per kilo also saw a positive performance in 2020, rising 5.3% over the previous year. The sector is dominated by the fruit segment, which accounted for 47% of total exports in 2020, followed by fruit and vegetable preparations and ornamental plants and flowers. The sector faces challenges in 2021 due to the economic impact of the pandemic and the need for digital transition and strategic public investment in infrastructure.
