The jellyfish mass occurrence crisis alert has been upgraded from 'interest' to 'caution' level. The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute announced an additional preliminary warning for jellyfish in the waters off South Jeolla Province on the 9th. Five days after the preliminary warning was issued for the waters off Busan and South Gyeongsang Province on the 4th, the jellyfish mass occurrence crisis alert was added. According to the Fisheries Research Institute, moon jellyfish are appearing in the Deukryang Bay and Gamak Bay areas of South Jeolla Province at up to 40,000 individuals per hectare, with small individuals under 10cm appearing. Moon jellyfish are native to Korea, and while their toxicity is weak, massive occurrences can cause fishing nets to tear, decrease catch volume, and lower quality.
