Full Moon Jellyfish Mass Outbreak Crisis Alert Expanded

A jellyfish mass occurrence crisis alert has been upgraded from 'interest' to 'caution' level. The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute announced an additional preliminary warning for jellyfish in the southern sea off South Jeolla Province on the 9th. Five days after the preliminary warning was issued for the seas off Busan and South Gyeongsang Province on the 4th, the jellyfish mass occurrence crisis alert was additionally raised. According to the Fisheries Research Institute, moon jellyfish are appearing in the Deukryang Bay and Gamak Bay areas with up to 40,000 individuals per hectare, with individuals under 10cm also appearing. Moon jellyfish are native to Korea, with weak toxicity, but when occurring in large quantities they can damage fishing nets, decrease catch volume, and lower product quality, potentially disrupting fishing activities.
