The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Kim Dong-hoon) announced on the 18th that it will distribute 3.6 tons (for 4.8 hectares) of new variety sweet potato seeds, 'Hopungmi' for the 2025 crop, to local farmers. The distribution will be handled through municipal and county agricultural technology centers, with the application period ending on November 20. The actual distribution is scheduled for early December. The new variety 'Hopungmi' is a type of pumpkin sweet potato developed by the Rural Development Administration's National Institute of Crop Science in 2021, featuring a red skin and a light orange flesh. It has a high sugar content and good taste, gaining high consumer preference, and compared to the existing variety 'Hogammi', it shows a 12% increase in yield (3.4 tons per 10 acres) and productivity.
