(Chuncheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Yang Ji-woong = Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province recently revealed on the 6th that it is putting all its efforts into blocking measures as African swine fever (ASF) is spreading nationwide. The province deemed that any gaps in farm-level blocking measures could lead to a crisis situation of further spread. Accordingly, it urges pig farmers to strictly adhere to strengthened administrative orders and announcements, and in conjunction with cities and counties, it plans to strengthen checks on farm quarantine status and continue quarantine measures such as disinfection, inspection, and environmental testing. The main contents of the strengthened administrative orders include immediate reporting upon discovery of suspected ASF symptoms (death, increased mortality, high fever and loss of appetite, cyanosis, etc.), prohibition of entry into farms of items suspected of ASF contamination such as illegal livestock products, prohibition of pig farm worker gatherings and events until movement restrictions in quarantine areas are lifted, etc. Additionally, it announced additional quarantine standards such as conducting environmental inspections of composters and accommodations for workers at all pig farms nationwide, submitting information on farm workers including foreigners, and enforcing them quarterly.
