Gapyeong-gun, a county in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, has made its first export of forest products to the United States. The products, including Gapyeong pine nuts, taffy, Korean sweets, soy sauce, and soybean paste, were exported to the New York and New Jersey branches of Food Bazaar Market, a major Asian grocery distribution chain in the U.S. This export marks the first time processed foods using local forest products as raw materials have entered the U.S. market. The county plans to promote these local specialties through promotional events at the retail stores. The export is a result of collaborations with Korean agricultural and food product exporters to globalize Korean agricultural and food products.
