Recent amendments to Federal Law No. 217 in Russia now allow individuals to use their garden plots for the breeding of poultry and rabbits for personal needs, as long as they comply with land legislation, veterinary, sanitary, and hygiene standards. However, the law restricts the breeding of larger livestock such as horses, cows, and pigs on these plots to prevent potential disturbances within gardening partnerships. For the keeping of larger animals, individuals are required to utilize lands designated for agricultural purposes or those specifically allocated in city or town master plans, after a change in the land category has been made, according to State Duma deputy Nikita Chaplin.
