Brazil: Garlic and tomato prices rise in Minas Gerais; potatoes and carrots face decline

The weekly survey of vegetable prices, released by the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Minas Gerais (SEAPA), points to significant variations in the prices of the main products sold at CeasaMinas, in Contagem. The analysis, carried out based on prices practiced between September 23 and October 4, 2024, aims to assess supply, demand and possible impacts on the state's food supply. Among the products monitored, the following stand out: pumpkin, Italian zucchini, garlic, potatoes, onions, carrots, chayote, peppers, okra and tomatoes, which showed fluctuations both upwards and downwards, reflecting the market dynamics during the period. While products such as zucchini, garlic, chayote, peppers, okra and tomatoes saw an increase in prices, pumpkin, potatoes, onions and carrots showed a decrease in prices. The price of pumpkin, for example, increased by 20.1% in the first week of the analysis, followed by a drop of 8.5%, ending the period at R$3.33/kg. ...
