GB cattle prices experienced a significant increase in January 2023, with all-prime deadweight cattle averaging 454.7p/kg, a 13p increase from December and 48p higher than the previous year. Steer prices rose by 12p to 456.2p/kg, and heifer prices increased by 14p to 454.8p/kg. Young bull prices also saw an upward trend, averaging 435.9p/kg. Cow prices increased by 21p to 366.8p/kg, showing a year-on-year rise of 86p. The estimated cattle slaughter for January increased by 3% year-on-year, and cow slaughter rose by 7%. The price growth despite more cattle forward suggests strong competition. Both GB and Irish cattle prices are on a rising trend, with cow values experiencing particular uplift.
