Geographic indications in beekeeping raise income and protect local traditions

Geographic indications can increase beekeeping profits and protect honey from adulteration, stated Viktor Pap, head of the Ukrainian Zakarpattia Beekeepers' Union "Silver Edge," in his speech at this year's "Honey Forum." Pap was adamant that the number of products in the sector using geographic indications is growing within the global trends of beekeeping development. According to him, the main significant trends in global beekeeping are: 1. Growing demand for organic products, as indicated by the increase in organic apiaries – up to 8% in the European Union member states, though without specifying the time period. 2.
