The Georgian government will be implementing duties on sugar imports for a specified timeframe beginning in November 2023. The duties will amount to 40 tetras per kilogram or 400 lira ($13.95) per ton for imports exceeding 100 kilograms. Agar Sugar Company, the main sugar producer in Georgia, recorded increased revenues and net profit in their 2022 financial report, with their efficiency being influenced by the price difference between sugarcane and finished sugar on the international market. Georgia imported a significant amount of sugar in 2022 and the first 9 months of 2023, including thousands of tons of Russian sugar.
