Georgia's 2024 wheat harvest is projected to reach a record 180 thousand tons, a 20% increase from 2023, with a record yield of over 3 tons per hectare. The government is supporting farmers with new combine harvesters and preferential agro-credit loans for grain storage infrastructure. Currently, Georgia relies heavily on Russia for wheat flour imports, but the government has imposed a tax on these imports to protect local farmers. Wheat is grown across Georgia, particularly in the Kakheti region, and the sown area in 2023 was 56.7 thousand hectares, resulting in a production of 146.6 thousand tons despite a decrease of 6.5% from the previous year.
