Germany experienced a 12% decrease in fresh fruit and vegetable imports in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, with the largest declines seen from the Netherlands (20%) and other key suppliers such as Italy, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Poland, and Belgium. The most significant reductions were in the import of onions (28%) and carrots (39%). Despite these decreases, imports from South Africa, Morocco, Peru, and Portugal increased. The average price of imports also rose by 10% during this period. The notable exception was the import of Dutch-grown and re-exported bell peppers, which saw a 21% decrease according to Eurostat.
