In July, Germany experienced a 15% decrease in fresh fruit and vegetable imports compared to the same month last year, totaling 681,000 tons. This decline is part of a larger 12% drop seen over the first seven months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. Despite lower imports from major suppliers like the Netherlands (10%), Spain (10%), and Italy (13%), imports from Morocco, South Africa, Peru, and Portugal experienced increases. The average import price rose by over 10% during the first seven months of 2022. Notably, imports of key products such as bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, and peppers saw significant decreases, while grapes, melons, avocados, and certain cruciferous vegetables and blueberries saw increases.
