The Spanish dairy industry is grappling with changing consumer habits, as reported by the National Federation of Dairy Industries (FeNIL). There has been a stagnation in dairy food consumption, with a shift towards private labels and cheaper imported cheeses, especially from northern Europe. Traditional Spanish cheeses, yogurts, and smoothies have seen a decline in sales, while liquid milk sales have seen a slight increase. In 2023, Spain imported a record 890,000 tons of milk and dairy products, significantly more than the 510,000 tons exported by the country's dairy industries.
