The German Bundestag has passed a law, proposed by the Federal Minister of Agriculture Özdemir, mandating the state labeling of animal husbandry for pork products. This law will be extended to other animal species, gastronomy, and processed products. The labeling system will have five levels, each representing a higher standard of animal welfare. Initially, the labeling will focus on the fattening stage of pigs, and will be applied to pork products in distribution, retail, and online sales.
