The German Federal Government has approved a new regulation on foodstuff origin labeling for fresh, chilled, and frozen meat from pigs, sheep, goats, and poultry. This regulation, proposed by the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Cem Özdemir, extends the indication of origin previously required only for packaged meat to non-prepackaged meat. The new rule aligns with the existing requirement for unpackaged beef. The approval was announced on May 24, 2023, by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
