In 2022, Germany saw a 25% increase in imports of processed and canned tuna, reaching $460 million, with 94% of its tuna imports being processed and canned. The demand for Marine Stewardship Council certified canned tuna in Germany provided opportunities for Papua New Guinea to increase its market share, while exporters from the Philippines experienced a decline. Ecuador, the largest supplier of canned processed tuna to the EU market, experienced an 11% decrease in exports to Germany. Vietnam was the 6th largest supplier of processed and canned tuna to the German market, but Madagascar saw a significant increase in market share with a growth rate of 703% in 2022.
