Germany regains the first place in the production of hops in the world

High stocks create pressure on the world market of hops, and the consequences are a drop in prices and a shrinking of the area in the USA, commented the electronic publication AgrarHeute, referring to data from the Association of German Hop Producers. For this reason, the United States cedes the first place in the production of hops in the world to Germany. Worldwide, this year hops area is expected to shrink by 4,800 hectares compared to 2023 to just over 55,000 hectares. The lion's share of the shrinking area falls on the USA – from 22,500 hectares to 17,850 hectares. In Germany, the process is much less pronounced - with only 340 hectares to 20,300 hectares, regaining the first place in the indicator after 9 years. As for varieties, the trend is in favor of bitter ones at the expense of aromatic ones.
