The article highlights the challenges faced by Senegal's dairy industry and the broader food production and supply chain issues across Africa, including low productivity, weak supply chains, inadequate inputs, financing, and land access, and the effects of climate change and COVID-19. Despite having a labor force primarily in agriculture, the continent struggles with malnourishment. However, efforts are being made to boost production, reduce reliance on imports, and improve trade and support for households, as shown through partnerships between the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and local companies in Senegal and Ethiopia. These collaborations aim to enhance agricultural efficiency, ensure timely delivery of essentials, and provide a fair market for smallholder farmers, ultimately benefiting consumers and enhancing food security.
