Global rice production: Which countries stand out?

According to data released by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global rice production for the 2023/2024 harvest remains practically unchanged compared to the previous month, projected to reach a record 518.1 million tons. This stability, however, is the result of positive revisions for Colombia and North Korea, which were almost entirely offset by significant reductions in Japan, Argentina and the United States. The total global rice supply for 2023/2024, estimated at 691.0 million tons, registered an increase of 676,000 tons compared to the previous forecast. This growth is largely attributable to increased rice transport through Indonesia, even though total global supply is contracting for the second year in a row.
