Over the past two decades, global production of blueberries and raspberries has seen substantial growth, with blueberry production increasing by 10% annually and raspberry production nearly as much at 9% from 2013 to 2022. These berries are sold in markets around the world due to their long shelf life and high demand, with Germany being the leading European market. However, the market is beginning to saturate due to limited resources, with imports of blueberries and raspberries in Germany setting new records in 2023, seven and twice as much as in 2014 respectively. This increase in imports puts pressure on German producers, as they compete with imports from other regions throughout the year.
