Gochang County Attracts 3,000 Foreign Seasonal Workers This Year, 'Most in the Nation'

Gochanggun in Jeollabuk-do is set to attract the highest number of foreign seasonal workers among all local governments nationwide this year. This is expected to not only alleviate labor shortages during peak agricultural seasons but also generate positive economic ripple effects. According to Gochanggun, the total number of foreign seasonal workers expected to work this year is over 3,000. From January to the present, around 2,500 workers have entered the country and been placed in approximately 570 farms, with an additional 500 workers expected to arrive in the second half of the year. Gochanggun has been promoting the 'expansion of foreign seasonal workers' as a campaign promise of the 8th local government. They have gradually increased worker numbers from around 300 in 2022 to 600 in 2023, and 1,800 in 2024, successfully recruiting 3,000 workers this year by expanding cooperation to include Laos.
