COAG has denounced that cherry tomatoes are being imported from the Sahara and labeled as originating from Morocco. Furthermore, it points out that in recent campaigns, there has been an increasing presence of certain products on supermarket shelves, such as cherry tomatoes, which indicate Morocco as the origin on the label when they are from companies that also have production in Western Sahara. Andrés Góngora, head of the fruits and vegetables sector at COAG, explained in the latest broadcast of AGROPOPULAR -May 24- the details of this complaint and what they are demanding from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Andrés Góngora began by stating that "the damage comes from these uncontrolled imports". He explained that the agreement clearly states that the production that can benefit from that free trade zone are Moroccan products, not Sahrawi products, "and what is being done is to mask one merchandise as another, deceiving the consumer, but also..."
