REPUBLICA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA – Papua Governor, Mathius D Fakhiri, asserts that no new permits will be issued for the opening of land for oil palm plantations, especially those that have the potential to damage the soil structure and the environment in Cenderawasih Land. “I ask that this be conveyed and written well so that what I am conveying is the President’s directive to us governors and regents, which is not to order the opening of new palm plantations, but rather the transition of land use,” he said in Jayapura, Thursday (1/1/2026).
